I have one gotcha left in my approach and if God cracks that one for us we will have a path we can use (whether we do follow up on it kind of depends on many other factors not the least of which is resourcing and time, but at least a door would be open).OpenSong is a free software application for managing chords and lyrics sheets (lead sheets), presenting lyrics (and custom slides) using a projector, and much more! Great for worship leaders and musicians! Without going into detail various members of the team are looking at different ways of solving the issue and as is often the case with coding, the key bit is choosing the correct technology and that depends on testing the building blocks until you get rid of the major gotcha's and then you can work on the actual building being pretty confident that you know it can work even if it going to take all year. It looks as though it will be a lot of work (possibly into the hundreds of man hours range), so prayer for resourcing and success would be greatly appreciated by the whole team. However I just thought I would mention that work is still on going on trying to find a way to solve this problem permanently and within OpenSong (actually having a 'video as a background' option and a slide type for showing video) I was working on it about half an hour ago whilst commuting to work.

VLC does work for mac and may be the same hack may work. You might have to play round with 'video mirroring', 'theatre mode' or 'overlay' settings in the display settings. Others might only work on the primary display. Note that some video cards/drivers may not support this properly. If the video plays but doesn't show through the presentation then you probably need to select a different colour for the slide background (use a colour-grabbing program such as Colorpix - to find out what colour) If all goes well the video should be shining through. If you have a video capture card you can also open that in VLC to show live video. It should be showing over the desktop of the monitor selected. Now goto 'DirectX' in the tree (expand 'Output modules) and select 'Wallpaper mode.' If you are using a secondary display for your presentations you should select that here too. Now goto 'Output modules' (expand 'Video' in the tree to find it) and select 'Advanced settings.' Select 'DirectX video output' as the output module. Click on Video and make sure 'Overlay video output' is selected. Debido a que OpenSong no se está actualizando, y con las últimas versiones de Windows no va bien, recomiendo un programa alternativo: OpenLP. Also, disable transitions as they won't work properly. Set the background colour to Red:0 Green:0 Blue:1. In OpenSong, edit the slide style to have no image.
Other versions should work but may need a slightly different procedure. Since there are so many requests for video backgrounds on here I decided to give it a shot using VLC media player (I used Opensong RC 1-14 and VLC 0.86a on Windows XP.
